The current system can be extended into a full scale protein search tool by adopting the modular neural network design of our protein classification system [Wu et al. 1995] It can also be extended to work on nucleic acid sequences, as demonstrated by our RNA phylogenetic classification system [Wu Shivakumar, 1994]. More studies are needed, however, especially to identify the limits of the protein family size, if there is any.
