In earlier work together with Nancy Lynch (MIT) and Roberto Segala (University of Verona) the second author developed a basic mathematical framework to support description and analysis of hybrid systems: the Hybrid Input Output Automaton (HIOA) model [10]. In the present paper we illustrate the application of the HIOA framework by using it to model and analyze the behavior of a simple Lego car, displayed in Figure 1.
