Using an optimizing compiler, the C code can be boosted to nearly 10 million instructions per second. We have also used the evaluator to test some of the functions of the Safer example [C 97, Di 99] which uses nested tables and other challenging constructs. It is tedious to write programs that enumerate the cross product of several ground types in a purely applicative style, so we have not undertaken systematic testing of the Safer functions in the manner advocated by Agerholm and Larsen ....
