Abstract: In order to achieve low bit rate transmission of video data, compression techniques are needed. Segmented image coding (SIC) and wavelet are two relatively new but powerful techniques used for compression of still images and/or video. The low complexity of these compression techniques allows software implementation on general purpose processors. A SIC and a wavelet compression algorithm, proprietary of the IRIS dept. of the VUB, were implemented in software on a Pentium II platform. The wavelet ... (Update)
