Abstract: This paper describes a multiresolution approach to tackling the image registration problem - the identi#cation of corresponding points or regions in two or more images of a scene derived, for example, from di#erent viewpoints or at di#erent times. This is a fundamental problem in a wide range of applications, most notably in the inference of depth or 3-d shape from multiple views and in the estimation of motion from video sequences .
