Abstract: We give an operational semantics for the synchronisation mechanisms of Demos, a small process-oriented discrete event simulation language based upon Simula and Demos. The operational semantics gives a clear, concise and precise meaning to Demos programs and have been extended to full Demos. The paper includes applications of the semantics as an implementation blueprint and in verifying the consistency of event list operations.
