Abstract: This paper considers a new networking isolation capability, termed a Virtual Overlay Network (VON). We suggest that VONs are well matched with the need, but would be prohibitively costly to implement using contemporary technologies. However, by expending an existing router feature and coupling it with wellunderstood group communication techniques, VONs could be supported at low cost, with good scalability. (Update)
