Abstract: : The use of cache memories is not encouraged in real--time systems because of the difficulties of obtaining reliable predictions for cache performance. The difficulties include, but are not limited to, the problems of predicting cache hits for individual tasks, and quantifying the impact on the performance of the cache caused by preemptions in a multitasking environment.
