Abstract: We analyze model problems of stress induced atomic di usion from a point source or the surface of a material into an in nite or semi-in nite grain boundary, respectively. The problems are formulated in terms of a partial di erential equations which involve singular integral operators. The self-similarity of these equations leads to singular integro-di erential equations which are solved in closed form by reduction to an exceptional case of the Riemann boundary value problem of the theory of...
