Abstract: The successful deployment of the ABR class of traffic in ATM networks requires
distributed rate allocation algorithms. These algorithms must have simple update
mechanisms and be adaptive to changing available capacity, while ensuring fair
allocation of the available capacity to contending sessions. We have developed a
class of distributed algorithms based on the stochastic approximation approach;
the theory for these has been published elsewhere by us. The switch algorithm is
completely... (Update)
