Abstract: Symmetric polynomials with unit coefficients in the field of complex numbers are shown to be simultaneously nonnegative if and only if all values of the variables are nonnegative. Symmetric polynomials in commuting complex matrices and their positive semidefiniteness are discussed, too. (Update)
