Abstract: First I give an introduction to the POSIX.1 set of standards. I am going to continue with an survey of POSIX.1, POSIX.1b and POSIX.1c. Standards as treated here are seen as an application programming interface (API), defined by some kind of protocol, between application and system programming. In the following I am going to examine what functionality is provided and what is available under Linux.
