Abstract: In this paper we present MAP21, an indexing structure for ranges. The main idea is to map a bounded range to a point in one-dimensional space, using a standard B + -tree to index such a point. MAP21 is storage-wise efficient, requiring O(N ) storage, where N is the number of indexed ranges. Its maintainance is also efficient, requiring O(logN ) accesses per update. We show that MAP21 is able to efficiently answer a number of different range based queries, requiring, O(log N + L) I/Os, where ... (Update)
