Abstract: We extend the formal speci cation of the group membership problem to include information on a large set of client nodes that frequently connect and disconnect from the servers group. We thus lower the client-server dichotomy to the base level in the system architecture, by bringing it into a membership service which is independent of the chosen group communication semantics. A membership protocol is proposed that solves such speci cation. (Update)
