Abstract: Design patterns in software engineering have been proven to offer great benefits, and scientific software is no exception. Especially as scientific software becomes more object-oriented, the importance of design patterns cannot be underestimated. We present a set of design patterns for scientific computing implemented in C++, apply them to two example object-oriented frameworks, and demonstrate their application benefits in terms of speed, memory consumption, flexibility, and software...
