Abstract: Today, computational Clusters of Networked Workstations (usually off-the-shelf PCs interconnected by high-speed, low-latency communication networks) are playing a major role in redefining the concept of supercomputing. Sadly, the fierce competition and the lack of common industry standards have lead to wide spread of clusters interconnected with incompatible high-performance System Area Networks (Gigabit Ethernet, GigaNet, Myrinet, SCI, QNet, etc.).
