Abstract: This paper surveys progress in the simulation of evolutionary learning and characterises some of the mechanisms that have been abstracted. In nature, mechanisms have evolved that permit increasingly rapid and complex adaptations to the environment. We observe that evolutionary learning systems are adopting these mechanisms to tackle harder and harder learning problems. Extrapolating this trend, we indicate an interesting new direction for future work on evolutionary learning systems. (Update)
