Abstract: An adaptive scanning order is presented for fast elimination of candidate predictors in MPEG-2 block based motion estimation. The proposed scheme jointly exploits motion characteristics across both the horizontal and vertical directions and it is less biased across sequences of different content due to the alternating placement of the early jump out check points with respect to the scanning order.
