Abstract: This paper describes a refinement calculus for the derivation of definite logic programs. Two characterizations for refinement, a semantical, considering the S-models of a program, and a transformational with partial deduction, are viewed. It is shown that the transformational approach with partial deduction is a sufficient condition to preserve the model theoretic requirements. Refinement with partial deduction can thus be seen as a tool for the step-by-step derivation of correct logic... (Update)
