Abstract: A fundamental question of Systems Science is the notion of system part or subsystem. However, this notion is traditionally used in an informal way or substituted by the idea of subset. We introduce a universal relation of part based on Kolmogorov Complexity and a cognitive version based on a time-space variant. Although there are some technical inconveniences, e.g. the part relation is not transitive, these formal notions can be used in cases where intuition does not suffice or other... (Update)
