Abstract: In this paper, we propose a new approach to the connected digit recognition (CDR) problem by preprocessing the speech signal prior to recognition. The speech signal is first segmented into a sequence of digits using a technique based on minimum phase group delay functions [1]. The segmented data is then used to train an isolated digit recognition system based on hidden Markov models (HMMs). During testing the test utterance is once again segmented into digits, and the segmented digits are... (Update)
