Abstract: As multithreading and object-oriented paradigms become prevalent programming models for large and complex softwares, fault-tolerance in such programming environments also becomes essential. Traditional checkpointing mechanisms limit the flexibility and sophistication of higher level fault-tolerance schemes for such a platform. Comparatively, selective checkpoints, those involving only communicating objects and threads, are more suitable for designing fault-tolerant multithreaded... (Update)
