Abstract:

GMD´s BSCW Shared Workspace System has been made publicly available to users already at a very early development stage. Users were invited to send comments to the BSCW development team and, as a consequence, the current functionality and user interface of the system has been substantially influenced by user feedback. This paper describes a detailed analysis of the email interchange that has taken place between users and developers of the BSCW system over about 30 months, and demonstrates how a participatory development approach for a groupware system has been carried out in praxis.
