Abstract:
Inthisworkwepresentapredictiveanalyticalmodelthat encompassestheperformanceandscaling characteristicsofan importantASCIapplication.SAGE(SAIC’sAdaptiveGrid Eulerianhydrocode)isamultidimensionalhydrodynamicscode withadaptivemeshrefinement.Themodelisvalidatedagainst measurementsonseveralsystemsincludingASCIBlueMou ntain, ASCIWhite,andaCompaqAlphaserverES45systemshowing highaccuracy.Itisparametric- basicmachineperformance numbers(latency,MFLOPSrate,bandwidth)andapplication characteristics(problemsize,decompositionmethod,etc.)serve asinput. Themodelisappliedtoaddinsightintotheperformance ofcurrentsystems,torevealbottlenecks,andtoillustratewhere tuningeffortscanbeeffective.Wealsousethemodeltopredict performanceonfuturesystems.
