Abstract: Introduction Previous work has found that at least two mechanisms are responsible for the complex dynamics observed in Internet traffic on relatively large timescales (above approximately 100 ms): aggregation of independent flows with heavy tailed On/Off durations [1][2][3] and competition of TCP flows in bottleneck links [4]. The former is applicable if the correlation among flows is small, e.g., if the network is lightly loaded. The latter, on the other hand, models a congested bottleneck... (Update)
