Abstract: This paper is concerned with the quantum computation of a certain unitary transformation, costing a quasi-linear number of elementary quantum operations (in particular, O(n(log 4 n) log log n)), which can be used for two applications: optimal quantum compression /decompression and also for the initiation of bulk quantum computers to a pure state.
