Abstract: Sylvan is a multiprocessor system that provides lightweight tasks with full address space protection. The primary design goal of the system is to make tasks viable as a scalable unit of concurrent abstraction. Lightweight tasks are supported by a tasking coprocessor that provides fast context switching and low-latency inter-task communication and synchronization.
