Abstract: Introduction From the time we first apply power to a processor until the time we shut it off, its program counter assumes a sequence of values a 0 ; a 1 ; : : : ; a n 1 : where each a k is the address of some corresponding instruction I k . Each transition from a k to a k+1 is called a control transfer. A sequence of such control transfers is called the flow of control, or control flow of the processor.
