Abstract: Introduction In this proposal, we explore scheduling issues in parallelized network protocol processing on shared-memory multiprocessors. The use of parallelism in network processing has recently become an area of active research [6, 20, 31, 34, 39, 42, 49, 64, 65, 66, 80] and significant applied/commercial interest [20, 31, 55, 64]. The problem area is motivated in part by emerging high-speed networks, such as ATM, capable of delivering gigabit-range bandwidth to individual host endpoints.... (Update)
