Abstract: This paper presents a new parallel volume rendering algorithm based on shear warp factorization on shared address space multiprocessors. Using a hierarchy of increasingly detailed performance measurements on real machines and simulators helps us understand the parallel programming and performance issues of the existing parallel shear warper and the algorithmic bottleneck. The debugging tools we used ended up leading us to a new parallel shear warp algorithm that substantially outperforms the... (Update)
