Abstract:
This paper studies the power consumption and trade-os of a wearable device playing audio streamed over a wireless connection. Our experimental platform is a credit card sized device, capable of receiving, decoding, and playing compressed audio. We present the power consumption of four audio decoders and four Wireless LAN cards under various conditions. By combining the cost of each decoder and the associated wireless link cost we determine the optimal conguration (MP3 with WaveLAN). 1
