Abstract: this paper. Harris (1989, 1990) investigates the ability of a simple neural network to learn a mapping from linguistic form to meaning in a small section of English centred around the polysemous preposition over. Harris nds that the network uses co-occurrences of linguistic forms and meanings to form an internal representation of relevant semantic aspects of lexical items. These internal representations are used by the network as the basis of a series of non-compositional rules which determine ... (Update)
