Abstract: Designers of communication subsystems for clusters often present performance data by measuring bandwidth and latency for single point-to-point connections. Such data is not sensitive to routing algorithms and to network topology, and little experimental evidence relating to the impact of these factors on performance has been collected. On the other hand there is abundant theoretical evidence for the use of topologies with high bisection bandwidth and multiple and even randomized routes. We show ... (Update)
