Abstract: this paper is organized as follows. Chapter 2 introduces a model that encourages
programmers to think about their applications in terms of shape, terrain, and texture.
Fitting a program to this model leads directly to the specification of a blueprint file, whose format
and function are described in Chapter 3. Performance profiles are described in Chapter 4, which
also compares example simulations with the results of full implementations. Chapter 5 discusses
