Abstract:
In this paper we describe our experience with the design of a flexible, extendible document system using a strictly object-oriented pattern approach. Design patterns are an increasingly accepted idea for designing flexible and well-structured software that is easier to understand and more extendible than traditional designs. Novel combinations of previously known patterns give a software architecture which is easily extendible not only at design-time but also at run-time.
