Abstract: . The UK government is adopting an architecture for secure electronic mail that was designed by CESG, a department of GCHQ, and is based on a key escrow proposal by Jefferies, Mitchell and Walker. It is attempting to force it on the commercial sector too, in the hope of creating such a large market that commercial software developers will support the protocol as a standard feature in their products. However, like the `Clipper' proposal from the US government a few years ago, the architecture is ... (Update)
