Abstract:

Ske letal plan s are a po werfu l way to reuse exist ing domain-spec ific proce dural know ledge. In the Asg aard pro ject, a s et of task s tha t sup port the design and the execut ion of ske letal plan s by a human ex ecuti ng agent o t her t han t he or igina l pla n des igner w e re cr eated. T he un derly ing requir ement to develo p tas kspe cific prob lem-solvin g methods is a mod eling lang uage. The refor e, wi thin the Asgaar d pro ject, a ti meori ented, int ention-based l a nguag e, ca lled Asb ru, w as de velop ed. Durin g the desi gn ph ase of pla ns, Asbru allo ws to expr ess durati ve ac tions and plans caused by dura tive state s of an ob serve d age nt. The i ntentions un derly ing t hese plans ar e re prese nted ex plici tly as t empo ral patter ns to be m ainta ined, achi eved or avo ided. T h e Asgaard p r oject and the Asbru langu age were design ed fo r low-freq uency doma ins. We proved t he ap plica bilit y of the Asbru langu age i n the real-world, hi gh-fr equen cy en viron ment of ne onata l int ensive car e uni ts (N ICUs). The know ledge-base of VIE-VENT, a n ope n-loo p mon itori ng an d the rapy planning s yst em fo r artificial ly ve ntila ted newbor n inf ants, i s enh anced and formu lated in t he Asbru s yntax. We s how the benefi ts an d lim itati ons of the time-orie nted, skel etal plan repre senta tion to be appl icable
