Abstract: The design of systems according to the metaphor of a society of cooperating autonomous intelligent agents has become very attractive recently. This is mainly due to a new technological level of world wide interconnection that has matured in the scientific community and is now going to make its way into business, public and private life: Internet-based services like email, news or the World Wide Web, mobile computing and telematic applications, electronic banking, virtual shops and enterprises...
