Abstract:

ISO 10303-11 (EXPRESS) and ISO 10303-21 (STEP Files) are the upcoming international standards for the machine independent exchange of product data defined within the STEP (Standard for the Exchange of Product Model Data) effort. The validation of STEP files means to check whether the product data defined by (ISO/TC184/SC4 1993) meets the corresponding data specification which is defined by the EXPRESS language (ISO/TC184/SC4 1992). Due to the complexity of EXPRESS models and STEP Files a reliable validation of STEP files can only be performed by tools. When applied in the context of very large databases, i.e., validating huge STEP Files, the validation tools can easily exceed the limits given by the underlying operating system. The resulting problems mainly relate to the required main memory and to the run-time when performing a full validation. In this paper we first present a general investigation of the conformance checking by giving a detailed classification of the test. Based on these classification we introduce the partitioning of the validation into different independent subtests which can be run in parallel.
