Abstract:
This paper proposes a novel data placement and retrieval scheme based on a general two-level disk array architecture for designing interactive video-on-demand systems. The proposed scheme is of significance because the two-level disk array architecture exploits both parallelism and concurrency offered by fine-grain and coarsegrain disk array structures. Moreover, the execution of an interactive fast forward or backward search command will not disturb the original disk access scheduling and thus requires no extra disk bandwidth to perform fast forward and backward searches. 1
